2023 Recap

If I could describe 2023 in one word it would be ‘inefficient’, particularly in relation to studying. I feel as though although I have made good strides in improving, I have been quite unstructured in my approach. I have found that I’ve had a hard time being fully focused and consumed in what I am doing and find myself getting side tracked or trying to multitask. I want to be doing things to the best of my ability and give 100% to one thing rather than 80% to one and 20% to another.

In contrast to studying, I now have a good playing schedule and am putting in consistent hours every week where possible. I have spread my volume across 6 providers, putting the top end of my buy in range onto the small field softer sites for reduced variance and I am trying to be far more selective in the games I am playing. This has been working really well so far but I am trying to constantly tweak areas to try and optimise my schedule.

I started the year on $12 ABI being staked and ended the year on $29 ABI on my own bank roll and have been quite aggresive in shot taking throughout the year. The biggest shot taking occurred during WCOOP and I got absolutely crushed throughout; this was easily the worst month of $ results of my short tenure playing poker.

Despite the inefficiency, I believe I have made good strides in my improvement this year and have created a solid foundation for the coming months to growth at an even faster rate, particularly in the last few months of 2023.

I have maintained an 8bb win rate throughout the year, the last 3 months have been closer to 7.5bb at $29 ABI. I have played 4600 games across 131 sessions. Included below is more detail in the form of sharkscope screenshots and a PT4 graph which gives a full overview of my year playing poker. Most of my volume was at the $55-$11 bracket so have included all-time, <$109 and <$100 charts. $ results are pretty lackluster but I am largely unphased by this and have the general attitude that the work put in now will pay dividends in future. As you can see, I need to work on my $109+ game!

2024 Plans

I will be giving my full focus to everything I do rather than splitting my attention, even outside of poker. I have been guilty of scrolling through discord or watching twitch when I have 2-4 tables left which I desperately want to avoid going forward. Full focus and nothing less.

I will be re-prioritising the leaks raised to me as part of my database review. My 2024 will be centred around plugging these and creating a study plan to do so with the addition of Pokercode coachings and hand history reviews with a tight nit group.

I will improve and maintain a winrate of 10bb/100 while climbing stakes.

I will drill 100 hands per day on Wizard as a minimum.

I will prioritise the use of HRC which has dipped in recent months.

I will continue to excercise good game selection and plan to reduce my overal average field size considerably while aggresivley shot taking when appropriate.

I want to add 1/2 live stops to my scheudle this year, likely a UK stop and then an EPT in the second half of the year, likely Cyprus.

I will continue to surround myself with players of similiar mindset and continue to contribute as much as possible to the small study group I helped form in the latter parts of 2023.

Goodluck to you all and happy new year.
