General Update
I’ve had an extended break from poker playing and studying since March due to personal developments in my life which are still ongoing. I am hopeful to be back grinding both the tables and sims in the near future but some things are more important at this point in time. With the above in mind, my update is mostly to focus on what happened in the first quarter of the year and touch on my plan going forward.
Studying
I am in a group of 4 guys working toward the same goal to get better every day. We’ve been having calls and posting hand history’s to review each street in detail etc. I’ve been inactive for the last couple of months whilst away from poker but I intend on making this group a big part of my improvement process so shoutout to those gents. I truly believe that group has a huge ceiling for success so let’s do it together guys.
I am now utilising a server for running HRC sims which is of course far more efficient than my practice of leaving my PC running overnight to run sims. This will also be a big part of my development going forward and will feed into the calls and discussions that occur for the group mentioned above.
Since January I have started 1-on-1 coaching which thus far has been great in identifying leaks and therefore opens up the door for me to solve these issues. The sessions have taken a pause since March but I am hoping to pick these back up weekly/bi-weekly when I am back.
In summary, my plan is to continue working in a group setting to review hands in detail, have coaching to focus on leak plugging while also utilising the Pokercode seminars and Mammoth library. In addition, the solo work will of course continue in the background with Wiz.
Playing
My ABI increased slightly to $34 while also decreasing table count as suggested by my coach to ensure I give sufficient attention to each decision. It has highlighted that I was clearly overdoing it with 12 tables previously and where my focus at the moment is improvment, it’s more important to be focused than to mass table for the time being.
Largely, my experience on the tables was mostly positive but I am just far too passive and not attacking in key spots which just compound into huge blunders which is apparent from the horrendous red-line below.

Goal Setting
It was made clear to me after my 2023 recap post that my goals were not optimal. For example, the goal of maintaining a 10bb win rate is very unrealistic as this is not a controllable variable, not over the short-medium term anyway. Plus, if all goes well I will be playing higher in December 2024 than in January 2024 therefore win rate will be impacted.
I’ll be coming up with some new goals before I return to the tables but overall it is to work toward improving everyday but I am very optimistic about my future. That’s it!
Thanks for reading everyone.
